Liz McGrory, member of the ICFNE Gala Committee, asked 2013 Hall of Fame Inductee, Maya Balle, about her Gala experience last year.
Here’s what Maya shared:2012 Hall of Fame Inductee, Maya Balle & presenter, Liz Walker
The gala is the year end heart center of ICFNE. Coaches from all arenas of our profession have the unique opportunity to express their gifts and talents. To be surrounded by our community, to honor coaches who have contributed to clients and to our chapter is a treasure.
I was thrilled to be so cherished by my peers. Gathering to celebrate our achievements and contributions and raise money for The One Fund was a highlight of my career.
It is important to come to the Gala! ICF is our professional affiliation. We network, build relationships over the years, learn and support each other.
This poem by David Whyte expresses the privilege:
“The ultimate touchstone of friendship is not improvement, neither of the other nor of the self, the ultimate touchstone is witness, the privilege of having been seen by someone and the equal privilege of being granted the sight of the essence of another, to have walked with them and to have believed in them, and sometimes just to have accompanied them for however brief a span, on a journey impossible to accomplish alone.” (David Whyte from Readers’ Circle Essay, “Friendship”)
Liz: What a beautiful quote. Thank you, Maya, for sharing your thoughts about the Gala!
Are you excited to nurture and create new friendships within the ICFNE community? We hope to see you at the 2014 Gratitude Awards Gala!
