Accountability is essential for the success of leaders and coaches alike, but done wrong, it can inhibit effective leadership and healthy collaboration. This session introduces the concept of Conscious Accountability, a different approach to accountability that: (1) views accountability as a shared endeavor; (2) focuses on results and relationships; (3) and prioritizes learning over blame.

Through the exploration of a case study and experiential break outs, participants will learn about Conscious Accountability and the 7 practices that help create it: the CONNECT framework. After introducing all seven practices, we will take a deeper dive into the practice of Noticing, which involves: (1) recognizing and naming what you experience within yourself and observe about others, and (2) communicating what you experience and observe to others with curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment.

In this presentation coaches will discover:

  • The CONNECT framework: seven practices that promote conscious accountability and how they relate to ICF coaching competencies.

  • A new way to understand accountability and awareness of how to think about it differently in their work.

  • A range of practices that promote accountability.

  • How to recognize and name what they experience within themselves and observe about others during coaching, collaboration or teamwork.

  • How to communicate what they experience and observe to others with curiosity, compassion, and non-judgment.
