Coaching is a profoundly intimate and practical process. Each client arrives at our doorstep, or in our Zoom room, with unique proclivities, tendencies, aptitudes, and patterns of behavior. As trained coaches, we are equipped with skills such as deep listening, reflecting what we hear, providing direct input and guiding clients to actions that help to realize desired intentions. These are good and necessary coaching skills. But are they enough?

What if there were a tool that could give both the coach and client an inside view of the natural proclivities, tendencies and patterns of behavior that drive us? What if this tool opened vistas to our innate gifts? What if this tool revealed strategies we automatically use in times of stress that keep us small and sabotage our efforts? The Enneagram is such a tool.

In this session, we will introduce to the Enneagram as a tool for growing self-awareness, self-compassion and self-knowledge. We will briefly look at the nine personality types highlighting their core belief, motivations, fears, focus of attention, and innate gifts.

Next, we will highlight the importance of first using the Enneagram for our own personal growth, so that we can be more aware of how we show up as a coach for our clients. How do our own automatic patterns enter the coaching relationship and either hinder or enhance our coaching? How does knowing our client’s Enneagram Type inform us regarding how our clients are entering the coaching space? How can we as coaches adjust to each unique client?

Lastly, we will explore how the Enneagram is used to bring about deep transformation. How do we help our clients realize their greatest potential and live from their truest selves? How do we relax our automatic strategies and behaviors so that we have our personalities rather than our personalities having us?

During the presentation, time will be allotted to connect with other participants and for a Q&A in order to process and discuss learnings.

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Have a basic understanding of what the Enneagram is
  • Understand how the Enneagram can be used in coaching
  • Identify key strategies for using the Deep Coaching Model:
    • Presence
    • Supporting client in having a direct experience in the present moment; constriction to expansiveness
    • Automatic patterns as Obstacles to Goals
    • Making a U-Turn
